Every Building Needs an Energy Audit

An Energy Audit is the first step towards optimizing comfort and minimizing utility cost. Many companies offer free energy audits as a marketing tool. But we are serious about the first step in an energy efficiency program to reduce your carbon footprint.

Our Approach

We are an accredited partner with the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and have five members of staff trained through this program. We are also privileged to be part of the NY State EnergyStar program as a Home Performance Contractor. For more details see (http://www.getenergysmart.org)

What to Expect

An audit is a comprehensive diagnosis of where in a building energy is being inefficiently used (e.g. inefficient appliances) or wasted (e.g. heat lost through air leakage to the outside). An audit takes 3-4 hours, depending on what you have asked to be reviewed.

How You Benefit From An Energy Audit

The audit report will document your homes performance and also will identify areas for improvement and their likely impact to your utility costs and comfort. However the audit does not directly save you money. Implementing the recommended improvements is how savings happen.

The largest home energy cost in NY state is for heating but where does the heat energy go?

Uncontrolled Air leakage. The average home will exchange about 30% of the inside air volume with the outside per hour. 0lder homes may be as high as 100-150% per hour.
